Ecommerce Credit Card Fraud Prevention Tips
Ask For Specific Information: No one likes to have to fill out extensive fields of information when purchasing a product, but asking for nothing but the customer’s name and payment info can make it more difficult to identify a fraudulent charge if it occurs. Ask for the customer’s mailing address, phone number, and an alternate phone number or other specific information when creating customer fields. Don’t allow orders that don’t contain a valid mailing address and at least one phone number to be completed.
Question Suspicious Orders: This includes both orders that are purchased through U.S. based payment methods and shipped overseas, and excessively large volume orders. Of course, not all orders that meet either of these criteria are automatically fraudulent, but taking the time to verify the three digit security code of the credit card used and/or the shipping and billing address can potentially save you and the actual owner of the credit card both time and money.
Secure Your Shopping Cart: Make sure that your SSL certificate is up to date and that your shopping cart checkout system is secure. If your shopping cart isn’t securely encrypted and PCI compliant, your chances of ecommerce fraud are dramatically increased.
